The Gap announces a new venture to their empire, a flagship store in Milan, Italy.  This is Gap’s effort to break into the global fashion market.  Italy is the perfect choice to start since Italians apparently spend 3x more on fashion than Americans.  But how does the Gap plan on gaining fashion cred in the high fashion world of Milan?  Team up with one of the most prestigious fashion houses of Italy: VALENTINO!  Now this is nothing new in fashion, heck Lanvin just released a highly anticipated line for H&M which had customers lined up around the block for the debut on Saturday.  However, I think, considering Mr. Valentino Garavani has let go his reins just under two years ago, this particular collaboration could be a risk for the new design team of  Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli.  So what could fashion’s most exclusive high-end label have to offer the price conscious American company?  Well that will be answered by a seven piece collection set to debut in the Milan store soon.  The line will include jeans starting around $82, classic gray Gap T-shirt and sweat-shirt cotton and also heavier khaki-green cotton jackets, graced with vintage Valentino bows and ruffles.  I will be giving it the benefit of the doubt until I see it for myself.  So bring it.

  1. I think that these collaborations are great. It gives normal people access to brands they normally wouldn’t know or afford and it gives designers a chance to expand their artistic creativity (kind of like what you’re doing = bringing international fashion to the masses). It worked for Target in the past and I have high hopes for Gap their quality of product far exceeds Target’s.

    • i kind of agree, but I think would prefer to see someone like the Valentino brand doing something more like an H&M or even Target as oppose to the GAP where they can use the aesthetic they are know for. When have they ever done American sportswear??? Thats my only issue I think. =)
